Maison Martin Margiela. Collaboration with H and M.
What fool: we were not expecting. After excessive aesthetic frenzy, opulent end of Versace and Anna Dello Russo, did not imagine that the next firm to embark on a collaboration with H & M would be Maison Martin Margiela. The minimal, intellectual and minority Maison Martin Margiela.
When issued the joint venture responsible for the French firm stated: "We are pleased to present pieces of Maison Martin Margiela with H & M in a reinterpreted version of our vision. The democracy of our fashion is an intrinsic characteristic of our creativity and collaboration with H & M we can go further with this instinct. This collection brings together the worlds of these two houses opposite fashion in a way that will surprise everyone. "
Certainly Margiela spirit permeates each and every one of the clothes: it shows in radical cuts and asymmetrical silhouettes in conceptual and almost hard to detail some accessories Dadaists, in containing chromatic ... It is, in short, the translation of asceticism commercial language. A complicated but interesting.
The Nov. 15 democratic version Margiela staff will be available in 230 selected stores of the Swedish brand. Again queues are guaranteed.

Hedi Slimane Shoots Anja Rubik for Saint Laurent
Hedi Slimane's spartan style as a photographer is well-paired with his sculptural sartorial vision for Saint Laurent. Behold his campaign images of Anja Rubik wearing—or not, in some cases—key pieces from his debut spring 2013 collection. Of course, it helps if your model is statuesque and your setting is like something out of Versailles.
Christopher Kane collection
Christopher Kane's scary print strikes again. This time, for spring, the honor goes to Frankenstein's monster—and it wasn't just prints.
Lanvin collection.
Alber Elbaz's anniversary collection last season was such an epic extravaganza, celebrating ten years at Lanvin, that it must have seemed rude to end the party—ever. And really, why would he want to? Especially when the designer's own image and tenure at the house are so closely tied with a festive spirit and an ageless joie de vivre?
The spring 2013 collection tonight certainly felt festive, from the moment one walked into the grand École des Beaux-Arts, half wishing it were a daytime show so that the entirely glass ceiling would let the natural light gush in. Mais non, this was a party. Ladurée macaroons and champagne awaited, as well as young waiters in big bow ties and bigger smiles.
Yohji Yamamoto Collection
by Anthony Stephinson
Yohji Yamamoto's collection was like several collections in one. The music chopped and changed as the clothes did, from austere to military to rock to sexy to glam. Models sported cropped, bleached mop tops atop long brown locks, with the freshly cut hair still falling around them.
I was reminded of the Wim Wenders documentary, the classic scene where Yamamoto sits on the floor, cutting away with his scissors, touching all of the fabrics, and pondering the balance and weights. He talks of his continuing exploration of the body of the European woman, and this collection was just that: an exploration of European tropes.
In interviews, the designer has spoken of the sex appeal of youth. And it was no shock to see sex was still on his mind, after his sexed-up fall collection, though this time it was a softer approach. These were the grown-up versions of the girls you met in art school, effortlessly beautiful, braless, smiling and sexually charged.
Soft layers of chiffon and silks floated around the body, defying gravity, the bodies themselves holding the clothes together. Complex crisscross straps on the backs on dresses, juxtaposed against the simple drapery on the front, and pops of sheer color exposed the models as much as concealing them, while felted fabric on skirts were cut and tattered punk-style.
This was Yamamoto in his purist sense, distilling and pouring forth his current meditations on form, all over the place yet somehow focused.

Mugler Collection.
In the two years since he ascended to the role of creative designer at Mugler, Nicola Formichetti has established the house as an open space of sorts, sharing insider moments with, well, anyone with an internet connection and an interest in fashion. This season he gave marketing stunts whole new meaning, inviting online followers to submit their vision of the Mugler archives, with the five winners granted access to the fittings and backstage.

This Wikipedia-style, power-to the-people creative process is in sync with Formichetti's magpie references, which this season included equatorial trips, Mexico, Southeast Asia, Guy Bourdin, and Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love. Of course, Lady Gaga is never very far away. Cake, an unreleased single, was mixed into the soundtrack by sound-stylist extraordinaire Michel Gaubert.
Despite all the drum rolling, the Mugler clothes themselves haven't yet reached zeitgeist level.

That said, the collection was clearly the best Formichetti and designer Sébastien Peigné have shown so far. Stepping down from her Gaga-esque pedestal, the new Mugler woman is ditching divawear in favor of user-friendly, sexy hourglass minidresses given an architectural edge with lantern sleeves and curving pleats in moldable fabrics like scuba and intriguing, plasticized materials paired with sheer textures. The palette of browns and burgundy was occasionally illuminated by boxy tops and skirts in tropical yellow, meant to evoke sunsets. The new accessory line included sharp clutches and high-heeled shoes with a 3D tortoiseshell effect, crafted by Massaro.
"It's about the street," said Formichetti in his program notes to explain the brief, tightly edited parade. “The hum of cars and the headlights, the setting sun againt concrete skyscrapers and the delirious heat that purifies." Many designers have gone down that Alaia-sexy 80s route before, and this new urbane stroll has clearly benefited the Mugler design team.
